Saxophonist Iain Duncan and B3 organist Nick Peck are bringing their blend of groovy sixties boogaloo-funk and smoking soul-jazz to Mateada, joined by the amazing Hans Verhoeven on drums. Nick Peck is an award winning composer, pianist and organist, originally from London, UK, where he completed his Master of Music at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After moving to Canada he rapidly established himself on the west coast, appearing in clubs and festivals across the country, including last year’s Art Spring annual fundraiser right here on Salt Spring! Nick has recorded for the Cellar Live Label, and accompanies some of the country’s finest musicians.
Iain Duncan moved to Salt Spring in early 2022 from Victoria, where he was a regular performer in the Victoria Jazz Festival and various other venues. He holds a Master of Music from the University of Victoria, and is currently an interdisciplinary PhD student in Music, as well as a student of Afro-Cuban percussion. Hans Verhoeven is based out of Nanaimo and is the drum teacher at the Vancouver Island University jazz program. He holds a Master of Music from the University of Victoria and is a regular at clubs and festivals in BC, supporting local and touring musicians from across the country.
