Jim Black Trio! Jim, or James, is one of the PNW’s jaw-droppers. Talkbox, Flying V guitar, Frank Zappa meets D’angelo meets Herbie Hancock all wrapped in a firecracker of a gentleman who has spent the last handful of years working in the education system way up north… High energy, groovy and melodic, rock solos and dancefloor-moving pulse.

Jim Black is an artist and educator from White Rock, BC. He has played guitar, composed, and produced with Vancouver based group Star Captains since the 2000s. His engineering work with Five Alarm Funk earned him a Juno nomination for the album "Rock the Sky." The Jim Black Trio is his high-energy ensemble that delivers eclectic renditions of beloved pop songs from the 20th century, with a twist of their own. Alongside bassist Zach Wong and drummer Brennan Buglioni, Jim is excited to rock with the patrons of Mateada.
